A thoughtful, sensitive and comprehensive consultation should be the initial experience for both patient and doctor. During the consultation, Dr. Mierlak strives to obtain a complete history of the presenting problem. In addition, important aspects of past personal, family and medical history are discussed. The consultation process can include review of records, communication with past or current doctors or therapists, or communication with family members if appropriate.
The goal of the consultation is to understand the patient’s problem in the context of their biological, psychological, social, and, if applicable, cultural/spiritual domains. At that point a discussion of all treatment options begins.
